Who Is Reina?

Hi, I’m Reina. I was born in Ceiba, Puerto Rico and raised in Charleston, South Carolina. Coming from a military family and having traveled from coast to coast, being a Latina raised in the South was an adjustment that later proved to mold my cooking style and overall outlook on life.

Family, tradition, food history and culture, and embracing diversity are all integral to my life in the kitchen. By focusing on modernizing humble meals, I find that connecting with others through food is my biggest and most rewarding takeaway on this culinary journey.

Sofrito represents my roots, my homeland, and my culture. It represents my people. It’s a labor of love: a project. This is where I share recipes, my thoughts on food culture, and other aspects of life. I hope you enjoy my food as much as I enjoy making it!
